The surnames Rice, Royce, Royse, Roys and other variations have now been shown so far in a Y DNA project to have TWO distinct families. RICE and ROYCE.
Many males tested now carry the Rice surname although they belong biologically to the family of Robert Royce of colonial Connecticut.
Only one male Royce tested so far does not belong to Robert Royce family.
Most descendants of Robert Royce currently have the surname RICE.
The RICE surname is found in seven distinct families with multiple members mostly in the south United States and over THIRTY biologically different Rice families most of whom are searching for their progenitor.
The Edmund Rice family of 1638 at Sudbury, Massachusetts has the largest number of males who have Y DNA Haplotypes in agreement followed by the family of Robert Royce.
Details of reports and genealogies can be found on line at edmund-rice.org All above surnames are welcome to be tested.
Robert V. Rice, President
Edmund Rice (1638) Association.
