Peter C(harles?) Royse (c1825-1907) is listed in the 1880 Census for Villisca, Montgomery County, IA with his 2nd wife Elizabeth S. (1849-1923) and their children William, Mary, Carrie and Virgil. He says that he was born in OH and that his parents were born in VA and NY.

The children of Peter and his first wife Mary A. Goody were Charles (1854-1926) and Edward (1858-1917). According to the 1880 Census, Peter, Charles and Edward all worked for the RR. Peter and Charles were both listed in Villisca, Montgomery County, IA. Edward was listed in Peru, Nemaha, NE. Both Charles and Edward later moved to Broken Bow, Custer County, NE where Edward became the Mayor and a noted citizen.

Peter and his wife apparently moved to Furnas County, NE since the following are listed in the Mount Hope Cemetery:
Royse, Peter C. (1829-1909)
Royse, Elizabeth (1849-1923)
Royse, Carrie O. (1873-1946)

Does anyone have any information on the ancestry of Peter C. Royse?

They appear to have consistently spelled their name Royse (not Royce). I am wondering if they are not related to the family of Frederick Royse and Sarah Dewitt since that family also came from VA. Also Charles Royse named two of his daugthers Lydia and Bertha, which are names that also occur in that family.

Thanks.

Phil Crowther
