Canadian Rozee's - mostly in Nova Scotia
I just came across this forum. Here in Nova Scotia, Canada, our main variant of this name is spelled ROZEE. Canada's phone listings at - www.canada411.com - show 51 in the country, with about 35 of those in Nova Scotia.
Does anyone know how and when the ROZEE folks arrived in NS or the rest of Canada ? They are likely all related in some way.

I have come across one French-speaking person named "Roussey" during my working career. In the Québec phone listings I find a small number of ROUZIE spellings.

Does anyone have the Old World history of this somewhat rare name ? Is it perhaps a variation of the French "rosé" meaning "reddish complexion" or "pink colored" ? I suspect this is a name which was perhaps Norman French (Roussey or Roussie or Rouzie ?) and came across the Channel with William the Conqueror in 1066 ? In England, I think the "oo" became "ow" or a straight "o" as it became anglicized. Any ideas about this from anyone posting here ??
