Rozet, Huguenot in Vienna, Austria
This is posted for general information of those reading this forum.
My great-uncle George Harvey Eldridge of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, married in 1890 Julia Alice ROZEE of an English family who were French Protestants (Huguenots) as far as is known. They settled in England in the late 1600's after the Edict of Nantes, which had guaranteed religious tolerance, was revoked by Louis XIV of France.
Just before Christmas 2000, I was visiting Vienna Austria. While walking in the old centre of the city, in Kohlmarkt (Coal Market), I happened to notice a sign on a shop selling watches and clocks which read "Rozet & Silberschmidt". I asked the lady inside what she knew about the name ROZET and she said they were Huguenots who fled from France and religious persecution.
I did not have time to get more details, but I believe it is likely this spelling is yet another variant of the same family name found in this forum and others.
Does anyone posting here know of the ROZET spelling of this name in Europe ?
