I agree with you about the non-creative naming. If I didn't have the family bible, my Brown family would be hopeless to find. I'm currently trying to get the Brown families in Chesterfield County, VA straight. You're right, there probably is a connection. I've heard the name Mary Seay Brown before, but I can't place it.

Bertie County, though, is in North Eastern North Carolina. Back in 1740, before the counties were formed, Bertie Precinct stretched across North Carolina, but by 1760, it was only a small county in North Eastern NC. Raleigh is in Wake County, in central NC.

I'll keep you updated if I find anything on Lockey.
