Rowlands in Birmingham

I am trying to trace my gggrandfather and his family. I believe they owned a pub/inn in Birmingham in the 1860's and my ancestor went by the name of either William, Richard or Albert Rowlands and was born c.1857. If anyone has info on a Rowlands who disappeared to Africa with the British army in 1878 please let me know.
