The Rowlands are a confusing bunch of characters!! I can't speak for the books you mention or the sources used to compile them. But I can refer to a Will for a Robert Ewing found in the Bedford Co Will Book 1:2 and dated 3/2/1786, recorded 6/25/1787. This will names Robert's widow as Mary. Sons as Finis, Robert, Baker, Reuben, Chattem, Urbin, and Young. Daughters as Patsey and Sidney Linn.
Robert's will and the legatees and relationships given and named, the date and county would make it fairly hard to dispute that his daughters were not the 2 daughters who married the Rowland brothers - Reuben and Micajah. Don't you think?
What sources do the books give for their claim of marriages of these daughters to other men?? IF they had been married previous to the Rowland brothers, then the Bedford Co marriage records would have listed them with their married surnames, wouldn't they? And consent would not have been necessary either. Consent was given for both.
Interestingly in the same Will Book is found the Will of a Charles Ewing dated 7/24/1770. PERHAPS (???) this is the father of the above named Robert Ewing who dies some 16-17 years later in that same county.
Charles' Will names his wife as Martha. (Sometimes the name Patsy was used as a nickname for Martha, Robert Ewing named a dtr. Patsy!). Charles' Will names a dtr Mary and sons as William, ROBERT, Samuel, George, David and Caleb.
I would SPECULATE that Robert Ewing who died in 1787 was the son of this Charles Ewing OR OR OR at the very least, perhaps a brother.
WHY do you think that your Jesse Rowland was the son of Micajah and Sidney??? Micajah Rowland's Will does NOT name a Jesse. I am NOT trying toshake things up for you but wonder what source you have for this ????? Micajah's will only mentions 4 legatees although 10 years passed between the writing of the will and it's recording. Another son may have been born to Micajah that was not listed but........? Micajah's will only names Micajah, Reuben E., Finis and Polly.
Another point to ponder. Micajah md. Sidney Ewing in 1793. I think then that the birthdates for his chilsdren might begin about 1794 onward. It would also likely make the birthdate for Sidney more like the 1776 date that you have for her!!!!! I have no birthdate for Sidney but would presume that IF Micajah was just a young boy when his father Henry died in 1773 and neither he nor his siblings were of age to claim their inheritance until 1794 - then Micajah's birthdate might also be around 1770 or there abouts.
Here's something else to further confuse the issue for you. Does this make any sense to you??? I DO have a JESSE Rowland in my files. I have him listed as a son of a Henry Rowland and wife Rachel Gray and being born ca 1826.
Henry Rowland and Rachel Gray were md on 5/28/1815 in Caldwell Co., KY. A Lewis Rowland gave consent for Henry to marry therefore Henry was not yet 21! Thus, it might appear that this Henry was the son of Lewis Rowland.
This Lewis Rowland left a Will dated 6/2/1834 and proven 10/20/1834 in Caldwell Co., KY. It named his wife as Rachel. Legatees named were David Rowland, HENRY ROWLAND, Wm. Roach, Charles Jones, Lucinda Jones,, Mary B. Rowland and William Rowland.
THis Lewis Rowland I BELIEVE was the son of MY Reuben Rowland (ca 1770-1806). Lewis was on the Caldwell Co., KY census lists AND the Laurens Co., SC at the same time and places as MY Reuben Rowland and his other children.
Is it possible that this fits your Jesse Rowland at all????? IF so, then we are closer cousins that previously thought!!!! ALTHOUGH I HAVE NO PROOF that Jesse is in fact the son of Henry and Rachel and I don't know my source for theinfo.
Perhaps if you gave me the names of Jesse's children we might have a better idea?? Where did he go in Missouri - what county??
I would LOVE to have info on him including will, census and land purchases!!! Did you mention he then went to Illinois or am I confused??
