There appears to be an error on the marker or in transcribing. There was no one by that name in the 52nd Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infanty. Following is the correct unit. "MUSTER ROLL OF COMPANY B, 57th REGIMENT, GEORGIA VOLUNTEER INFANTRY, ARMY OF TENNESSEE, C.S.A. LAURENS COUNTY, GA. "Rowland, Amos L. (or Roland), Private, enlisted May 5, 1862 in Laurens County. Captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi July 4, 1863. Paroled July 7, 1863. Exchanged October 1863. Pension records show he was given sick furlough September 1864. Furlough extended for 60 days at home on sick furlough close of war. (Born in Laurens County, Georgia October 25, 1830.)" Source: Henderson, Lillian, compiler, "Roster of the Confederate Soldiers of Georgia 1861 -1865." Hapeville, Georgia: Longino & Porter, Inc, Volume 5, 1962. A copy of his service record can be obtained from the National Archives in Washington, D.C. at http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/index.html. A copy of his and or his widow's Georgia Confederate Soldier's Pension Application can be obtained from the Georgia Archives. Click the Research Help link at http://www.sos.ga.gov/archives/how%5Fmay%5Fwe%5Fhelp%5Fyou/. This might provide a death date. This may be the same Amos Rowland found in the 1860 census of Laurens County. Hope this helps. I am not related. Notify Administrator about this message?
