Will of John Rowan 1839
The last Will and testament of John Rowan of Allegheny township, Westmoreland County Pa. In the name of God Aman I John Rowan considering the uncertainty of life being of sound mind and memory (Blessed be Almighty God for the same) do make & publish this my last will & testament in manner & form following (that is to say) First I give & bequeath unto my third son, Thomas Rowan my plantation on which I now live Containing one hundred acres more or less & he is to pay my heirs as follows first he is to pay my first son James Rowan one hundred & fifty Dollars one year after my decease & to my Daughter Margaret one hundred & fifty dollars two years after my Decease & to my Daughter Elizabeth one hundred & fifty Dollars three years after my Decease & to my Daughter Mary one hundred & fifty Dollars four years after my Decease & to my son John fifty eight Dollars & to my son Robert forty-two Dollars both to be paid five years after my Decease the above sums amounting to seven hundred Dollars.My Son Thomas Rowan is to pay out of my plantation, also I Will & bequeath to my son Robert Rowan the house & lot in North washington & the carding Machine & small Writing Desk also I Will & bequeath unto Thomas Rowan of my personal property two horses & all the horse gears which horses & gears is now in his possession also the ploughs harrows & his choice of the two wagons also to my three Daughters unmaried Margaret Elizabeth & Mary I will & bequeath to each of these three an equal share of all the beds & bedding we have also to each of the above three unmaried Daughters one saddle & one Beaureau also an equal, share of the corner cupboard & its wares & the mantel clock & all the other houshold & kitchen furniture that the think the stand in need of also the loom & tranklings also one cow & six sheep the cow to get pasture & fodder with Thomas Rowans also I will to my three Daughters unmaried have the use of the new end of my Dwelling house as long either of them remain unmaried also I will that all my remaining personal property Notes cash & accounts I may Die possessed of be apraised & sold and Devided between my son James &my five Daughters, share & share alike after my Just Debts & My Burial expences are paid also I will that my Executors give over to James Rowan my oldest son a note I hold on him also I will that the give up to John Gill two Due bills I hold on him to satisfy him for Boarding my Son John Rowan & I Do appoint my son John Rowan & Thomas Dunn to be my Sole Executors of this my last will & testament hereby Revoking all other Wills by me made In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this fifteenth Day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & thirty nine.
