More ROWAN information! Ireland, Montreal, NY
Hi there,
I am looking for any information on my Rowan ancestors.
Edward and Margaret (née Johnson) were both born in Canada (according to my records), lived in Montreal for some time, and later moved to New York (and possibly New Jersey).
Edward Rowan was born about 1851 and (I believe) had a sister named Agnes and a sister named Margaret (I may be wrong about this). He was in the gold business and dental supplies business (dental gold, in fact).
Edward Rowan and Margaret Johnson (born about 1858, also in Canada, descending from the Johnson and Blanchfield families) had four children:
Alfred Rowan (b. about 1897)
Margaret Rowan (b. about 1890)
Harold or Ned Rowan (b. about 1907, later lived in New Jersey — I think)
Edith Rowan (b. 1886 or 1892)
Edith Rowan's daughter Edith Martin (married to Bronx judge Francis Martin) was my grandmother. Francis Martin's parents (Dennis Martin and Catherine Keegan) were from Watervliet, New York (although I'd love to know their country and families of origin also — I believe they were born in Ireland).
Edith Martin married my grandfather, also a judge, Adrian P. Burke.
I'm hoping to provide as much information as possible since I really don't know anything about where the Rowans came from (or the Johnsons or Martins, in fact), so if you have any information, I'd be truly thankful.
