My gr gr grandmother was Martha Carlton Rowe b. abt. 1822 in TN. I found “H. Row” on the 1865 state census of Wyandotte Co., KS, listed as "itinerant" in Martha Carlton Rowe and Robert Henry NEWTON household. It said she was born in Ireland. Next, I found Hannah Row in Warren Co., KY (as below) 1850 Warren, KY John L. Row, 27, TN – millwright Eliza A. Row, 27, KY Henry D. Row, 3, KY Perry T. Row, 10 months, KY Hannah Row, 67, Ireland Rachel Row, 18, TN James Ingram, 28, NC – laborer Perry Martin, 21, KY – laborer This 1850 census would give my Martha Carlton Row the given name of her mother and the names of 2 of her siblings: John L., and Rachel. Next I found: Federal Census 1860 Shannon, Atchison Co., Kansas Territory Name: Age: Estimated Birth Year: Birth Place: D.D. Hendricks 35 abt. 1825 Kentucky Hesther 32 abt. 1828 Tennessee J. D. Hendricks 10 abt. 1850 Kentucky William E. Hendricks 5 abt. 1855 Missouri Daniel D. Hendricks 3 abt. 1857 Kansas Henry F. Hendricks 1 abt. 1859 Kansas Catharine A. Hendricks 28 abt. 1832 Kansas Heannah Row 74 abt. 1786 Ireland Geo Heffland 21 John Carter 19 G. Wines 21 [Note: Hester Row m. D.D. Hendricks 29 Oct 1847 in Kentucky] So, it looks like Hannah Row died between 1865 and 1870 in either Mount Pleasant, Atchison, KS or Warren, KY. Finding her will mean looking in both of these counties. OR-- I would love to find a deed or estate papers involving these folks. AND based on the occupation of John L. Row [millwright] I think I might have the name of the father: Ovel Row. Here is the connection as found on books.google.com. This book has only snippet views, but here is what I could see: “Kentucky Genealogy and Biography: Sketches from Allen, Monroe, Metcalfe… Page 204 By William Henry Perrin, J. H. Battle, G. C. Kniffin, 1971 “John L. Row, son of Ovel and Hannah (Perry) Row, was born in Robertson County, TN” p. 204 “…United States when a child of 3 years by her father, Joseph Perry, who married a Miss McGoffin. John L. Row was reared on a farm, and at the age of 17 left home and learned the carpenter and millwright trade. He has since followed the latter trade and bridge building. In 1845 he located in …” p. 204 “…had a family of one son and 3 daughters.[NOTE: John L., Martha C., Hester, Rachel] Ovel Row was a millwright, immigrated to Kentucky, and settled near Harrodsborough about 1814. He is said to have built the first cotton factory in Kentucky near Danville. He built another in Logan, KY. Later moved to Robertson County, TN and … returned to Logan County…” p. 204 [Note: Martha had her first child in Robertson Co., TN] There is obviously more about this family in this page/book. And I will not believe it, but there happens to be a copy in the Seattle Public Library AND the Oregon State Library, Salem, Oregon. You can see this if you click on “Find in a Library” on the left side of the screen after you click on the link for the title of the book named above. Also: There is someone on Ancestry.com that has John L. Row’s birth and death dates: b.17 May 1824, Robertson, TN d. 28 Aug 1898, Warren, KY They also have the names of his parents: Ovel Row who died 1842 in Logan, KY and Hannah Perry. But, no sources are given. This person didn’t know the names of other siblings of John L. Row. Notify Administrator about this message?
