I'm following a line of ROWs who lived primarily in Amenia, Dutchess Co. NY, on the western border of Sharon, Litchfield Co. CT. There was a lot of moving and intermarrying across the border. The name was German, originally RAUH; the Germans would have pronounced it to rhyme with 'cow'.

Amenia was heavily settled by Germans; Sharon primarily by English from MA and eastern CT. You might look for your ROWs in this area, as well as farther west in NY state.

Betsy
