Karen, I've been reading the posts you wrote about Columbus Routt. I see that in the 1850 Kenton Co. KY census, he is age 3 with mother TERISA Routt. Looking at the 1840 Kenton Co. KY census, there is only a Thos. Routt on p 296, in the 50-60 age range, but with a much younger wife (or possibly a widower with an older daughter?)...do you think Terisa/Lucretia could be the widow of this Thomas?
In Kenton co., in 1840, Thomas and Terissa Routt sold land on Cruises Creek, which he had received from his father William. He also sold land in 1841 on both Cruises Creek and on Grassy Creek. In one of these transactions, the printed abstract has Thomas and Jennifer Routt, which confuses me.......were there two Thomas Routts?? Have you looked at these deeds? Evidently he had moved to adjacent Boone Co. KY by March of 1841, so I need to look in that county for further records. He must have died in 1849 or before the census in 1850.
I think Columbus could have signed for his sister's marriage even if he wasn't yet 21, if he was the oldest available male relative.
