I have a letter from Ross H. Routh dated Oct. 1, 1981, which states:
"At the time Tom Turpin, Earl & Anna Roberts, and I compiled and published our books on the ROUTH family, in 1976,1978 & 1980, it appeared to us that Jeremiah Routh (b. 1784 NC) had sons James (wife Eleanor Wilkerson) and Joseph (wife Letitia Burroughs) and that they were all descendants of my great-great-great gramdfather Jacob Routh (b.1745 NC) and his wife Martha Redfern.
"Further research has convinced us that Jeremiah Routh (b. 1784 NC) was the father of James (Henry) Routh (wife/2 Mary Hooten) and his brother Joseph Routh (wife Letitia Burroughs), who went from Tennessee to Wayne County, Indiana, and that they were all descended from Joseph Routh (b.1747 NC) and his wife Mary Redfern. We have also agreed that the James Routh who married Eleanor Wilkerson with Joseph Routh as his bondsman, and the Joseph Routh who married Nancy Jane Loveless with James Routh as his bondsman, were undoubtedly brothers and both sons of James Routh (b.1775 NC) and his wife Rebecca Gower (b.1785 NC), and therefore grandsons of Joseph Routh (b.1747 NC) and his wife Mary Redfern (b.1749 NC).
"Recent research and contact with descendants of Zacheus
Routh (b.1788 NC) and Jeremiah Routh (b.1795 TN) has proved that Zacheus and Jeremiah were brothers and both sons of my great-great-great grandfather Jacob Routh (b.1745 NC) and his wife Martha Redfern (b. 1747 NC). Both Zacheus and Jeremiah and their wives were members of the Paw Paw Valley Baptist Church in Sevier County, Tennessee, 1820-1833, and all moved to Ray County, Missouri, in 1833/34 and all apparently lived out their lives there."
