I'm looking for the parents of HENRY MCBETH ROURK. His name could have been ROURK, ROURKE, ROOK, ROOKE, ROARK, ROWARK. I have much info on his children and will trade. Thanks. -- Karen --

HENRY McBETH ROURK, SR. married ANNIE TERESA REDMOND BROWN (Annie’s name in the family bible was Annie Theresa Redmond). Born 1860 in Elloree, SC. (SC census of 1880 listed as 20 yrs. old). Died 01 Dec 1913. Father: UNKNOWN ROOK. Mother: BARBARY BROWN. Father was killed in Civil War. Mother was presently married to Brown, but had not seen him in a year. Was working on a planation near Beaufort, SC. She had 2 small children by Brown, one an infant, and was unable to care for all 3 children. HENRY MCBETH ROURK was placed in the Charleston Orphanage. He left the orphanage at age 17 and moved back to Elloree, SC, where he married ANNIE THERESA REDMOND.

I don't know Father's name, but I think he was killed in the Civil War. Henry McBeth Rourk was born in Elloree, SC. His mother placed him in the Charleston Orphanage in 1865. At the time of his admission, his mother's name was BARBARY BROWN and she stated that she had this child (Henry McBeth) by one ROOK and she was presently married to one BROWN and hasn't seen him in over a year. He was working on a plantation near Beaufort, SC. She also stated that she was destitute and had two children by Brown -"one a baby in her arms." She could not take care of all of 3 of them and was putting the ROOK child in the orphanage. Henry left the orphanage at age 17 and returned to Elloree. He married ANNIE THERESA REDMOND. I do not know her father's name - her mother's name was MINNIE - she was married three times. First, to REDMOND. Only one child of that marriage was ANNIE THERESA REDMOND. Second, to one GIVENS. Two children - FRANK GIVENS and MAYBELLE GIVENS. Third, to ROWLAND. Two chidren - WILHELMINA ROWLAND BOLCHOZ and CHRIS ROWLAND. Aunt Mena had a sister, LENA CONNOR. I had heard of LENA CONNOR, but assumed that she was from the Givens line.
