Can I, once again, make a New Year plea, please? I know there is no very much hope, as I have not received an answer over the past couple of years, but I don't want to give up. I, and I would think lots of other members of our family, would very much like to find the original source(s) of the family tree of the Rowntree/Rountree/Roundtree family from Moses Rowntree (b.1550) through William, Joseph and John, to Frances (sic) Rountree (b. 1649). The earliest that I have been able to find when this tree first appears was in 1963, in a book (The family of Ebenezer Durden Rountree) by W.E.Rountree, without any references, and similar information was sent to the Mormon Church, for their records, by Frances La Merle Cochrane in the 1970s. La Merle Cochrane’s notes said that the information was gathered by I.W.Rountree (d. 1979), of Swainsboro, Georgia, during a visit to the British Isles. A nephew of I.W. told me that I.W. never visited the British Isles, and the nephew did not know of any references for the tree. W.E.Rountree, who was I.W.Rountree’s son, never acknowledged my letters. If any one of the Rountree/Rowntree/Roundtree family, or any one else, does know where the data originated, e.g. in a family bible or church records, will they please let me know. I am sure that there are many family members who have this tree in their genealogy and they would like to believe that it was based on solid records, rather than some possible guess work by person(s) unknown, or even the false work of a rogue genealogist. I will not include it in mine unless the sources can be shown to be valid. Thank you. Fred Rowntree Notify Administrator about this message?
