He is thought to be the son of Francis Rountree/Rowntree/Roundtree (various spellings) who died in Chowan County, NC

Chowan County, NC 1730: Francis Roundtree, will Sept. 30, 1730; June 27 1734. Sons, Francis, William, Jesse, Jethro, Moses, and John. Wife: daus. Jane, Rebecca, Susanna, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Christian (Reg. 1-1-70)
