BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON JOHN ALEXANDER ROTHROCK
The following information comes from cousin Kent Rothrock:John Anderson Rothrock fought for the Union in the Civil War with Company I, 33rd Indiana Regiment. He was captured at the Battle of Thompson's Station in Tennessee.John was a Methodist.Family oral history has it that John ran a hardware store in Neoga, Illinois and was also a farmer. At one time JOHN invested all his money in a threshing machine and lost everything. He cleared the farm land that Ssarah's father had bought for her and built the barn that dad burned in 1980. John met with other Civil War veterans near Belaire, Illinois.Maranda died during a visit to Hope from Illinois.Maranda's brother's Civil Wartime diary is in Indiana Archives. The Shore (Schorr) history is complete from North Carolina back to Switzerland in 1560.
Sarah smoked a clay pipe, which Kent owns, along with the tobacco pouch and smoking table. The table belonged to Jesse Rothrock. He gave it to Sarah as wedding present. He also has her sidesaddle which she rode when visiting the farm. She also carried a small black satchel wherever she went which contained her important papers.Lester Spraker said her true mother died when she was less than 5; but she never mentioned anyone as her Step-mother.Tufted quilt made by her mother. The Reed log cabin sat in a small clearing on NS road at farm.
Maranda was the daughter of John Schorr/Shore (1799-1872) and Anna Susannah Rominger (1798-1888).
Sarah was the daughter of George Spraker (1801-1880) and Catherine Shrader (c1805-1848).
I have huge Rothrock and Rominger family trees.
