First: I am not directly related to Rost, just want to help.
Second: Do you know the Stammbuch der Rost- und Rust-Familien by Wilhelm Rost, p.239f., which lists a Rost family from Hitzerode and Wellingerode (not your ancestor though). If not, I'd be ready to fax you the pages 239-241.
