This information may be of interest to a Rossman researcher. Jacob Rossman, age 16, sailed from London, England on the clipper ship Cornelius Grinnell, arriving at the Port of New York on September 13, 1852. Jacob was from Germany, most likely Herchenrode or Ernsthofen, Hesse-Darmstadt. Sailing with him on the journey were his first cousins, Philip Maul, age 23, and Eliza Götz, age 17, both from Ernsthofen. Eliza and Philip married shortly after arriving in America and settled in Ogle, Co., IL for a little over 5 years before moving on to Clinton, Co., Iowa where they lived the rest of their life. I have no further information on Jacob, but he may have been the son of Johannes Rossman, b. Oct. 18, 1795 in Herchenrode, Hessen-Darmstadt. Johannes had two sisters: Anna Maria who was the mother of Philip Maul and Anna Elizabeth who was the mother of Eliza Götz.
I do have more information on the Rossman lineage should anyone be interested.
