Hi Kevin,
Although it is tempting to believe that William Howell may be Bertha's father, with his birth year est. at (ca) 1873 and Bertha's est. at (ca) 1870, it's not a likely scenario.However...as unlikely as it might be, if Bertha died prior to 1948, (which would be the Bertha buried at Green-Wood who died in 1941) Alexander may have remarried yet again...although with a father whose birth year is 1873, that would calculate his daughter's birth year to be at least 1893 making Alexander about 25 years her senior...hmmmm...possible I suppose.
After hand searching through every family with a name even remotely sounding like Rossiter in 1870 and 1880 who lived in the eastern portion of the US, I am still unable to find a 'viable' Harry, Harold or Alexander who was born approx. 1868 in Massachusetts.I am beginning to think that he was NOT born in Mass., but somewhere else -OR- just invented his name. This is based more on his approx. year of birth than a name as there are very few male candidates born in the span of 1865-1870 (the years that most closely coincide with the ages he reported in the 1900, 1910 and 1930 census years.
I did a lengthy search on one family that looked promising, but it fizzled in the later census pages.Wrong ages of children, wrong occupation...you get the picture.
So nothing more on Bertha, and no death date for Harold Alexander or Alice McDonald.Hard to believe that there is nothing to find.
Please let me know about that "4th" child. If I'm stuck with these loose ends, at least I will know the children are listed correctly.
Thanks Kevin,
