Hi Kevin,

We have corresponded on this line before and I am just revisiting my research on this family now. Thanks for getting back to me so soon.

I only have 3 children for this family...hmmmmm..... They are Sidney (11 Jun 1901-Nov 1981), Alice Gail (7 Sep 1902-10 Jan 1990) married (1) James Joseph McGovern on 22 Oct 1920 in Maine; Married (2) Edward Johnson on 11 Oct 1934 in Milford,NH; and Patricia (Patsy) Frances (17 Mar 1904-4 Dec 1967) married Edward William Hickey 26 Jan 1925 in Detroit, MI.

I have found very little on Sidney (his middle name, if he married, had children, etc.), but I DID rule out that he was the same Sidney Rossiter that was a prominent attorney in New York...he was NOT. I know that he died in Baltimore, MD, so I will probably need to retrieve either a death certificate or find an obit to get more info.

The only census that I find Bertha in is the 1930. She and Alexander H. are living in Suffolk Co., NY (New York > Suffolk > Patchogue > District 22 > pg 3) She lists her occupation as "landlady"...ahem...and Alexander lists his occupation as "Vaudeville actor" so I know I've got the correct person. She indicates that she was born in Berlin, Germany, and by her age, her year of birth calculates to around 1870(+/-). I did use Find A Grave and located a Bertha Rossiter who was buried in Green-Wood Cemetery, but I am unable to positively identify this Bertha as the one that was "married" to Alexander since he is nowhere to be found. That's where I'm stuck with him.

I do have access to the 1940 census however that is where my problem arises. I cannot find either of them in 1940. I spent a bit more time going through the online death indexes for Philadelphia county and did find a few Alice M(a)cDonalds listed, (thinking she returned to using her maiden name), but NO Alice Rossiter's are listed.

As for living with other family members; In 1940, Alice Gail is living in Onondaga, NY with her husband Edward and two children John Jr. (from first marriage) and David Edward. Her mother is not living with them. Patsy and Edward are living in Essex, MA with their son Edward Jr. Her mother is not living with them. Sidney is single and living in Westchester, NY. His mother is not living with him.

So that's where I'm stuck...ughh! Whatcha think?...
