My great grandmother was Martha Jane Rossington (b. 1868, Walcott). Martha married Charles Bavin Sands in 1892 - the Sands were the village wheelwrights in Potter Hanworth throughout most of the C19. She was the youngest daughter of John Rossington and Susan Blow, of Blankney.
They had 4 children, all born in Potter:-
Edith Sands, b.1898
William Rossington Sands, b.1897 and married Susanna Mary Rossington in 1923 (she was the daughter of Thomas Rossington & Emma Burr)
Doris May Sands, b.1902, married Charles Henry Croft in 1927
Edwin James Sands, b.1907, married Ethel Croft (Charles' sister) in 1936
There is a great deal of material about the Rossington's on the internet and it all seem to lead back to Clement Rossington & Elizabeth Puttrell and then further back into the mists of time to the Rossingtons at Dronfield in Derbyshire. This is where I get a bit lost.
According the IGI on the LDS church website, there are three Clement Rossingtons born in approx 1645. One born at Anston in Yorkshire, one at St. Mark's in Lincoln and another at Scopwick, and according to the LDS records they were all the husband of Elizabeth Puttrell.
So will the real Clement please step forward. Has anyone looked for his birth in the Lincoln archive?, either in St. Mark's or Scopwick?
Also I have noticed the line traced further back to the manor of Dronfield in Derbyshire, but I am also struggling with this, because this family continued their rather well heeled existence well into the C19; which doesn't tie in with the Lincs. Rossington's
Can anybody shed any light on this? If not, I work at Lincoln University and can quite easily take a peek at the records to see if I can find the offending Clement, born inLincolnshire.
Please let me know if this might help, or if I would be wasting my time.
Also, is there anywhere I can get my hands on a Rossington GEDCOM file to help?
Thank you & regards,
Paul Croft
