Does anyone know what became of this family?
Samuel Ross & Dolly Summers were married in 1842 in Morgan Co., Indiana.
In the 1850 census, they were listed in Canton, Jackson Co., Iowa.
In the 1856 census, they were shown in Pierce Twp., Jones Co., Iowa.
After that, I can find no trace of them. Did they die, marry, scatter - all of the above? I have scoured Jackson and Jones County records and searched the federal census records for 1860 and later. I cannot find a clue to their whereabouts. Does anyone know what became of them?
Their children were:
1. Andrew John ROSS, b.abt 1840, Indiana.
2. Thomas Jefferson ROSS, b.abt 1842, Indiana.
3. Sarah ROSS, b.abt 1844, Indiana.
4. Enoch ROSS, b.abt 1846, Indiana.
5. Martha ROSS, b.abt 1848, Iowa.
6. Alsey [Elsie] ROSS, b.abt 1851, Iowa.
7. Elizabeth ROSS, b.abt 1855, Iowa.
8. John & Mary HINER, b.abt 1840, Indiana [apparently adopted]
Samuel ROSS was born in about 1810 in either Kentucky or Tennessee. He was probably the son of John ROSS of Marion Co., Indiana in 1850, and either Sarah (HADDEN) or Mary (unknown) ROSS.
Samuel’s siblings were:
• Thomas ROSS, b.abt 1809, OH, m. Rachel GREEN, lived in Jackson Co., Iowa.
• J.L. ROSS, b.abt 1819, KY, m. Julia (unknown), living in Marion Co., Indiana in 1850.
• Eliza Jane ROSS, b.Oct 1828, OH, m. Martin S. TOON, lived in Marion Co., Indiana.
• Possibly Sarah ROSS, b.abt 1837, KY, m. ____ CURRY or CURRIE.
Dolly (SUMMERS) ROSS, was born abt 1820 in Morgan Co., Indiana to Enoch and Alsey “Elsie” (HADDEN) SUMMERS, both from Montgomery Co., Kentucky.
Dolly’s siblings were:
• Laurel SUMMERS, b.1812, Montgomery Co., KY, m. Mary PARKHURST, lived in Scott Co., Iowa.
• Presley SUMMERS, b.abt 1815, died unmarried between 1830 and 1840.
• Redmon C. SUMMERS, b.1816, Montgomery Co., KY, m. Vashti (BLAKELY), lived in Jackson Co., Iowa.
• Shelton SUMMERS, b.1818, KY, m. Martha (JOHNSON), lived in Jackson Co., Iowa.
• Caleb SUMMERS, b.1833, Morgan Co., IN, m. Nancy Jane (GREGG), lived in Jackson Co., Iowa.
