Sorry Susan,
This is not my family. My Lachlan (there are various spellings) was born 8 Jul 1838 and if he immigrated to Canada at the same time as his older brother Hector, he would have been 10 in 1848 thus I presume he and Minnie (?Mary A.) MacKay were married in Ontario. There were MacKay families in East Nissouri, Oxford County at the time Lachlan was growing up there. Perhaps that is where he met 'Minnie'. I believe Mary Ellen is not in my family.
