Greetings to all of the Ross Family! My name is Randal J. Loy, and I am engaged in researching the families of individuals who are memorialized in the Nave of the church I attend, Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral (Episcopal), Kansas City, Missouri. I am having a devil of a time finding information on the wife of Lewis D. Ross, a direct descendant of George Ross (1730-1779), one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Lewis Ross and his family lived in Greenupsburg, (now known as simply "Greenup",) Greenup County, Kentucky. The only information I have on Mrs. Lewis Ross comes from her son's 1901 obituary. To the best of my knowledge, Mrs. Lewis Ross died in 1871, at least four years before the son met his wife, and I have to assume that the son's wife is the source for the information printed in his obituary. (He was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis D. Ross.) Mrs. Ross was supposedly of French Huguenot descent. Her given name was "Catharine", and she was born in 1828, in New York. Her husband's will states that his wife's name was "Catharine G. Ross." The son's obituary lists her as "Catharine Cabauden." Well, I've searched for and googled the surname "Cabauden" for weeks, and I've NEVER gotten one single hit! NOTHING!! I don't believe that such a surname ever existed. It is either an attempt at a phonetic spelling, or she was attempting to read illegible handwriting! I have tried many variations of the spelling of this surname, and had not had any luck with that, either! Does anyone have any information about this branch of the Ross family in Kentucky? I would appreciate any help that anyone can give me. If you do have information, please feel free to contact me at RandalLoy@aol.com. Thank you! Notify Administrator about this message?
