Hi Linda, I don't doubt that your family's ancestor was Martin Van Buren Ross. You certainly have plenty of evidence that proves that. what I'm questioning is the line of descent: You wrote: Rootsweb had this information. Francis born about 1650 Scotland James Ross, son of Francis born 1698 Ireland John Ross, son of James, born abt 1731 probably VA Martin Ross, son of James, born 1804, 1806 NC From John Ross, son of James, b. c1731, VA, to Martin Ross, son of James, b. 1804-06, NC, is too long a period. That's 73 years! AND were there two Jameses in there? If so, that would make it a bit more plausible. And I don't object to you being a descendant of Francis Ross, b. c1650, Scotland. It's just that I object to 73 years between generations. Maybe we should start e-mailing eachother directly. my E-address is: Charles Brashear 2380 NW Estaview Circle Corvallis, OR 97330 541/738-2685 Brashear AT mail DOT sdus DOT edu where you substiture the AT sign for the word and dots for the words.
