I am trying to find more data on Hugh Ross, who came from New Brunswick to Portland,ME and later moved to Boston,MA. This is what I have on him so far. HUGH ROSS was born about Dec, 1837 (1900 census) in New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Scottish born parents Hugh Ross Sr. and Mary. Death date still not found, but after the 1900 census. One rec (2nd marr) gives place of birth as Bathhurst, in New Brunswick, all other rec's just give province. Hugh married first, on 9 Nov, 1864 in Chelsea (or Boston) to MARGARET TALBOT, born ca 1844 in Nova Scotia to John and Catherine [MA vr v.173,p.163]. If this couple had any children, they weren't alive by the 1880 census. He secondly was married to SARAH GLASS, the daughter of William and Phebe, on 31 Oct, 1868 in Chelsea [MA vr v.210,p.183]. She was born ca Apr, 1845 in Ellsworth, ME, her death rec not yet recorded by me. While the 1900 census give Hugh an 1860 immigration year, he may have been here by 1858 when his parents had a child born in Maine. Prior to this, about 1849-1852, the family was located in New Foundland, and in New Brunswick before this. His father died in Charlestown, MA in 1868 at age 69, so it looks as if the family moved from Portland, ME (here in 1860 census) to the Boston, MA area soon after Hugh was mustered out of his service in the 27th Maine. Hugh Jr's occupation was a plasterer. Hugh and his 2nd wife had the following children: i. CARRIE, born ca 1870 in MA. Seen at age 10 in 1880 census ii. IDA M, born May, 1874 in MA. Living with parents in 1900, age 26. iii. ALBERT HENRY, born 17 Sept, 1875 in Boston, MA [MA vr v.270,p.197], married on 30 June, 1908 in Malden,MA [v.578,p.518] to FLORENCE M BADGER, born ca 1883 in Bangor, ME to Charles E and Mary E (Greenyer) Badger. He was a shipper at a wholesale store, and was living in Malden,MA during the 1910 census. They had only one child by 1910: 1. Albert, age 5/12 in 1910 As the 1900 census gives wife Sarah 5 children, 3 of them still living, there are still two more that need to be found in Mass records (providing the census #'s are correct). Ross is a fairly common name, so this may take some time to do. John www.the27thMaine.com Notify Administrator about this message?
