Kenneth Roser, born Nov. 8, 1920, in Denver, Colo., passed away on April 14, 2008, at his home in Diamond Springs, Calif., at the age of 87.
Kenneth Roser grew up on a farm in Hesperia, Mich., with his parents, Nancy Myrtle and Lemoine, and younger brother, Kermit. He had lived in the Placerville area since 1958.
With an adventurer's heart he left home at 15, and after a time at a C.C. camp, he traveled the country on foot. He often amused and amazed his children with his stories of riding the rails as a teenager in the '30s. He once hopped off a train in front of a group of awed youngsters who recruited him to fight the town's young and most promising boxer. It was a good fight and Ken lost but won lots of admiration before hopping another train and continuing his journey.
Ken served honorably in the Army in World War II. He was a machinist throughout his life both in Michigan for Continental Motors and then in California at Aerojet on the Apollo Mission and later at Mare Island. He once worked as a logger in California when machinist work wasn't available. He had many interests and turned most of them into paying passions. He loved growing corn and tomatoes and raising pigs. In his retirement he became a successful beekeeper.
Overall, his proudest accomplishments were his children. Ken was a man of strong passions and opinions, a man of strong will and beliefs, a man always ready to stand up for himself and those he loved. Ken was loved deeply by his family and friends and will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and three of his children, Kenneth A. Roser, Gloria Ingelsol, and Daniel Roser. He is survived by his sons, Ed Roser of Loomis, William Roser of Coloma, Kim Roser of Prescott, Ariz., John Roser of Fresno, and Kelly Roser of Diamond Springs; daughters, Betty Harris of Fallon, Nev., June Roser of Hollister, Mo., Joanne Calo of Georgetown, Nancy Roser of Cameron Park, and Rose Roser of San Francisco; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, at the Historic St. Mary's Building, 5051 Front Street, Rocklin, CA 95677. Burial will be held in Hesperia, Mich., on April 24, at West Hesperia Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkisons Research.
