In an autobiography by my great-great uncle, he mentions a family by the name of Rosenthal coming to Fort Yates about 1879 from an Atlantic Coast fort. His name was John Rosenthal, and he was married and had a son and a daughter. His daughter was named Mabel, and she was about thirteen at the time they came to Fort Yates. My great-great uncle writes that Mabel had red hair, and that her father was an Alsatian who spoke both French and German. It says that in 1884 the family returned home to Provincetown.Mabel eventually married Jacob Lester's adopted son, Albert Rosenfeld Lester. If you see any connection to this family, I would be happy to hear from you.I am guessing that John Rosenthal must have been born sometime in the 1830s or 1840s.I believe Fort Yakes was in the Dakota Territory.
