Rosencrance Family Genealogy Forum
My father's mother was Marie Rosecrans. Her line went as follows (as closely as I can determine, mostly based upon research done by one of her nieces):
Benjamin Tolbert Rosecrans (1860 - 1941)
Jacob Thomas Rosecrans (1824 - 1901)
John Travis Rosacrantz (1800 - 1840)
Benjamin Rosacrantz (1746 - 1830)
Herman Rosenkrans (1703 - ?)
Derrick Dirck Rosenkrans (c. 1670 - ?)
Harmen Hendricksen (Rosenkrans) c.1630 Norway
Harmen married Magdalena Dircksen 1656/57 in new Amsterdam. Their son, Derrick, married Wentje Kierstede, daughter of Roelof Kierstede and Eyke Roosa. Derrick's son Herman married Arysantie Ossterhout, daughter of Teunis Van Oosterhaut and Aryaantie Roosa. Herman's son Benjamin married Hannah Travis. Her father is alleged to have been a Jacob Travis, but I can't line up dates with the Jacob Travis from Port Jarvis, N.Y. who was a Lieutenant in the Rev. War and had a daughter named Hannah. Benjamin 's son John Travis Rosacrantz was born in Indiana. Benjamin served in the Revolutionary War. His great-grandson Benjamin Tolbert Rosecrans married Eliza Jane Bliss, whose line arrived in Hartford (CT) from England in the 1630s and later moseyed on over to Springfield, Mass. The Bliss-Rosecrans union produced my grandmother.
I have found the church records of the Dutch church in New Amsterdam to be real gems in terms of locating christening and marriage dates. I also found some fun early historical records that reference some of these folks. If you're interested, I'll see if I have titles, authors, etc. in the relevant files.
