Looking for the ancestors of Rebecca Rosenberry. If this looks familiar, please drop me a line. Thanks!


1. John R Yates was born in 1818 in Maryland. He died before 1917. John R(ichard?) Yates is shown in the 1870 census of Baltimore Maryland (16th Ward, Page 333) with his wife and son. He is a shoemaker. John and Rebecca had several children before Francis; all of whom died young. Note that Francis Yates and Addie Laura Hood both lived in the 16th ward of Baltimore and may have been neighbors.

John R Yates is also listed in the 1860 Census (16th Ward, Baltimore City, Family no. 1177). He is listed as "John Yeats" and has a 15 year old daughter, Mary. Frank Yates appears on this census record as Francis Yates.

In the 1850 Census, John R Yates is listed with his wife, Rebecca, and two children, Mary E. and William H. Around the year 1850, John and Rebecca lost many children.

John R Yates may be the same John R Yates, Jr who distinguished himself at Harper's Ferry during the Civil War (Marylander's in the Confederacy) in 1 Battery Matyland Artillery.

He was married to Rebecca Rosenberry on May 6, 1845 in Baltimore, Maryland. Rebecca Rosenberry was born in 1827 in Maryland. She died before 1926. Her father may be John Rosenberry. John was living in Baltimore MD on 20 Sep 1850 and was listed as follows: John Rosenbery, 51, a brushmaker born in Maryland; Barbara, his wife aged 53, also born in Maryland; their sons, Samuel (27), John (25), Joseph (18), and a daughter, Cassandra (10). Samuel and John were both listed as brushmakers; Joseph, as a plasterer. John R Yates and Rebecca Rosenberry had the following children:

       2       i.       Samuel H Yates was born after 1845 in Baltimore Maryland. He died on March 11, 1850 in Baltimore Maryland.
       +3       ii.       Mary E Yates (born in 1847).
       4       iii.       William Henry Yates was born on January 10, 1848 in Baltimore Maryland. He died on August 12, 1854 in Baltimore Maryland.
       5       iv.       Sarah Rebecca Yates was born in 1853 in Maryland. She died on April 8, 1857 in Baltimore Maryland.
       6       v.       John Charles Yates was born on July 15, 1856 in Baltimore Maryland. He died on April 10, 1857 in Baltimore Maryland.
       +7       vi.       Francis T Yates (born on April 11, 1858).


3. Mary E Yates was born in 1847 in Maryland. She died before 1937. Mary's marriage to William is listed in the Baltimore Sun.

She was married to William H Colein on June 9, 1864 in Baltimore Maryland. William H Colein was born in 1846 in Maryland. He died before 1944. William and Mary were living next door to Mary's family in 1870. William was listed as an engineer in the 1870 Census (Baltimore City, Maryland, 16th Ward) Mary E Yates and William H Colein had the following children:

       8       i.       Isabella Colein was born in 1865 in Baltimore Maryland. She died before 1955. Al three Colein sisters lived on Fulton Avenue, Balimore, MD.
       9       ii.       Ada Colein was born in 1867 in Baltimore Maryland. She died before 1957.
       +10       iii.       Minnie Colein.

7. Francis T Yates was born on April 11, 1858 in Maryland. He died on January 31, 1943 in Maryland. In the 1900 Census (Baltimore MD, Ward 16, ED 206, Sht 14, Line 37), Frank Yates was living with his wife and two sons. His occupation is shown as Railroad Baggage Master. He had been married 9 years. Both of his parents were born in Maryland. He lived with his wife and her two sisters on Fulton Avenue, Baltimore, MD in his later years.

Addie Laura Hood (daughter of James DeCatur Hood and Ann Jemimah Anderson) was born on November 20, 1872 in Maryland. She died on August 16, 1936 in Maryland. She lived on Fulton Avenue, Batimore, MD in her later years. Francis T Yates and Addie Laura Hood had the following children:

       +11       i.       Richard Hood Yates (born on January 24, 1895).
       +12       ii.       Donald R Yates (born on March 7, 1898).
