In Reply to: Need HELP!!!John Prentice Rose of Caroline, Co., Va by Wallace Reed of 10511

Not related............just a lookup

These very early ancestors can be tough to document and every little clue can help. When I did a google search on his name I found this extraction on an early WILL.

pp.11-2, I John Wilkerson...unto my Grand daughter Nomey Poats the first child that my negro woman Anne may have...my two natural sons Enoch Prentice Rose & John Prentice Rose the above mentioned Anne and the remainder of her increase to be equally divided when they come of age until which time she is to be hired out...all my household furniture together with my stock of every description and my negro woman Jane all of which household stuff, stock and negro Jane to be sold...17 February 1805. (signed). Proved 5 September 1805.

*note the fathers name is John Wilkerson.........both Enoch & John have the middle name Prentice and they are named as 'natural' sons. At first glance this Will, proven 1805, would be to early......but Enoch P Rose & John P Rose appear to fudge abit on their year of birth from different census years. And they are young(under age) when the WILL was written.

The WILL above may not name YOUR John Prentice Rose but would be worth ordering the complete WILL and checking it out for others named. William P Rose may be another strong clue. You have a granddaughter named in the WILL to check out and ofcourse Enoch Prentice Rose. Keep inmind that until the 1880 census relationship in h/h are not noted.

I also have a John Rose (1794) brick wall........I know how flustrating it can be. Hope something here will help you connect with your ROSE family line.

Good Luck
Marsha
