hello can anyone help?
im looking for information on james rorks/rourke or similar spelling, he married in sunderland england 1872 and in 1882 june he went to pittsbough, pensylvania usa as a sailor, i know that he died before march 1901 but we do not know where or how, ive searched the england records but found nothing. he was supossed to have wore some kind of dark blue uniform and recieved a medal or medals with an advertisement up until 20 years (around 1920) in a newspaper asking for his family to come forward for his effects and medal but they never did, and i dont know the newspaper, i think it was the news of the world. the only info i have is of a james rourke from liverpool to new york june 1882 born england age 35 travelled on the 'spain' ship. his fathers name was michael and according to the marriage cert they were both pig iron workers in the durham area of england. im trying to find out why he went to pittsbough, did he have family there? was it for the work? or some other reason? thanks for your help michelle
