You are correct. The immigrant Rorie ancestor for the Rorie family of Anson County, North Carolina, was John MacRorie. His son, William, dropped the Mac because of discrimination in the British colonies against the Scots Irish settlers. My father, Eulis Alma Rorie, born 1903 in Timbo, Stone County, Arkansas, always told me that we were of Scots Irish descent (or Scots protestants living in northern Ireland). My Rorie line is: John MacRorie and son, William Rorie, of Caroline Co, VA/John and son, William Rorie of Anson Co, NC/James Rorie of White Store, Anson Co, NC/Absalom Rorie of Anson Co, NC; Hardin Co, TN, and Searcy Co, Arkansas/Hezekiah Rorie, Newton "Newt" Rorie of Stone Co, AR/ Samuel Wayne Rorie of Stone Co and Independence Co. AR/ Eulis Rorie of Stone Co and Independence Co, AR/ and Kenneth Rorie, Independence Co, AR. My email is krorie@ipa.net
