The Roquemores France to SC 1764 Part V SC & After
Omission: I forgot to state before that the Roquemores arrived on the ship Friendship captained by Gerald Perkins.
There is limited or no later information on the Roquemores who landed at Charleston other than Pierre Jacques (P. James)Roquemore.
Mrs. Nash identifies land grants to Pierre R. Aine, Susannah Lafon R., Pierre Jacques R. and Pierre R. Junr.I know of no subsequent info on Susannah or Pierre Junr.(Other than a Pierre Roquemore sold 100 acres in SC 26Jan1778 that he had been granted 30Aug 1765,recorded Book ZZ,p 399. It is likely that this was either Pierre Jacques or Pierre Junr., not Pierre Aine, because of the acreage. He was living in SC Ninety-six District at the time.)There should at least be a record of the transfer of the acreage they received.
PIERRE ROQUEMORE AINE- Nell Patten Roquemore says there is a deed showing transfer of 125 acres to Anne R./L. Covain.I do not know if this refers to her as his daughter. They sold it in 1785.This would represent half of the 250 acres he was granted.Unless they received/bought more land later, this Pierre could not be Pierre Jacques or Pierre Junr. as they only received 100 acres each.
Rev. War: Pierre/Peter served as a Lieut. and Captain in the GA Line. In Feb 1781, Elijah Clarke Colonel Commandant 10 Captains (Companies). One = Peter Rockimore. 24Apr1790, Interrogations, Abbeville Co., SC: Peter Roquemore testifies that after the Siege of Augusta, he was under the command of George Dooly...
Land Warrants/Deeds: As indicated above, the Pierre who sold 100 acres in 1778, while living in SC Ninety-six District, was unlikely to be Pierre Aine. Peter received several warrants and subsequently deeds for land in Washington Co. and Franklin Co., GA.In 1788, while living in Abbeville (Co.?), SC, sold 402.5 acres he had been granted 14Feb1785. He deeded Anne R./L. Covain 125 acres, date unknown.
MARY JANE ROQUEMORE: There is little to identify Mary Jane or why she is not listed in either the France, England or Charleston data. It is known that she was born 1745 and died 28Oct1820 in Willington, Abbeville Co., SC.Her grave is in the Guillebeau Cemetary along with her husband Andre Guillebeau whom she married 16Dec1766. Based on dates, none of their children are buried here, but there are three unmarked graves. The only child I know of is Susannah who married Joseph James Bouchillon. As stated in a previous Part, Mary Jane's father is alleged to be Calvin Roquemore who died 1763 in England, of whom nothing is known by me. Her mother is alleged to be Susannah, born a1723 and died, date unknown, in New Bordeaux, SC.The Susannah Lafon R. who came to New Bordeaux was born much earlier than 1723.She had no sons born before 1727. So the relationship of Calvin, if he existed cannot be determined by me.
ANNE ROQUEMORE: Anne married Lazare Couvain/Lazerus Covin, date unknown. She died about 1790 (child born 1789, Lazerus remarried in 1791). Lazerus was born 6Jun1742, so it seems likely she was born in the 1740s (possibly making her the sister of Mary Jane). If so, she may have been too old to have been the daughter of Pierre Aine, probably born in 1727.Certainly, her mother was not Jeanne Seguin as she did not marry Peter until 1757. Anne's children (all Covin): John Peter b 10Aug 1782, Lazarus b unknown and Anna b 18Sep1789.Comments: The John Peter may have been named for her father. It is worth noting that the only Plymouth Roquemore who could have been Pierre Aine was named John (Jean), these are the same two names she gave her first son. Since their first child was born 1782, this makes her probably married 1780-81. This marriage date is consistent for the Marie b 1759 to Pierre Aine/Jeanne Seguin. Probably the name was Marie Anne or, less likely, Anne Marie. If so, she was considerably younger (17 years)than Lazarus who had four more children after he remarried in 1791 (this makes it likely he had all four of these children in his 50s).
Part VI will cover what I know about Pierre Jacques/P. James Roquemore.
