Ernest ROPP from France in 1893

Last night I finally found some information on my Great Grandfather Ernest ROPP. It appears he came through Ellis Island in 1893 from France aboard a ship called La Bretagne. He was listed as 19 on the ship's manifest and appears to have come with his parents and siblings, though I can only assume that's who they are at this time.

Having never researched outside of the U.S. before, I was wondering if someone familiar with researching in France would be willing to help get me started on how and where to start looking for more information about the French roots of my ROPP family
