Roots software conversion

Fran,
I am facing the same task, converting my Roots3 files to FTM version 6.0.
I have tried converting my Roots 3 to gedcom and importing the files. This was semi-successful, in that some of the data came through and some did not (marriage data missing.) Also, I find my "sure level" codes where locations should be.So there is a lot of clean up.
I tried a second avenue that was successful, but required the earlier version of FTM (version 2.0), which runs in Dos and has a specific utility to import Roots files.
I had to do this while running in dos, then convert the resulting files from a ".ftm" file to ".ftw" file, but it worked very well.It is limited, however, in that larger projects use up too much memory, and the conversion cannot finish importing.
My next attempt to convert to FTM will likely involve splitting a larger project into two parts within Roots; then using FTM 2.0 utility to convert to FTM; renaming the project with .ftw extension;; and finally merging the two projects back together with FTM v6.0.
After playing with the first project, I have decided it will save me much time if I clean up in my Roots3 files before proceeding with the software conversion.I am going through all my locations and standardizing the presentations.
I am still unable to find a global method of importing my citations and text, but am working on some strategies to use in case I cannot find a more efficient method.
If you have FTM v2.0 and want more detail about how I used the utility, get back to me.Otherwise, if you have a windows version of FTM, all I can offer at this point is the Gedcom method.
Good Luck
Nancy
