"C.W. Boogaart": two points: (1) the records our family'sname in the earliest records is spelt ROSENVELT/
ROSENFELT/ROOSINFFELT--and NOT "Rosevelt". It was an
orphanmaster that changed Claes's son Nicholas's name
of ROSENVELT/ROSENFELT/ROOSINFFELT to Roosevelt. Even
our immigrant-ancestor's name was spelt ROSENVELT/ROSENFELT
--NOT "Rosevelt". Would appreciate your using THE ORIGINAL
correct spelling. I might mention in a couple older
issues of the Theodore Roosevelt Association Journal giving
the OYSTER BAY & HYDE PARK branches of we ROSENVELTS is
an included section dealing, in brief, with a German family
spelling their name "Rosevelt" who lived in New York too
my understanding is it is now thought that that they are
NOT related to our ROSENVELTS--but, was thought further
research was warranted. The Roosevelts of Oud-Vossemeer,
you write in defense of, they spell their name "Rosevelt".
BUT, we ORIGINALLY spelt our name ROSENVELT/ROSENFELT--
and ROOSINFFELT. NOT "Rosevelt", NOR "Roosevelt".
(2) You mention 1937, and the CBS Broadcast, in the
town hall of Oud-Vossemeer, FDR's friend, Grenville,
telling the story of CLAES MARTENSZEN. Maybe it is
these friends who are the "SOMEONE" FDR refers to as
being the promoters of Oud-Vossemeer. THE FACT IS is
that circa one year after the said 1937 CBS Broadcast
from your village of Oud-Vossemeer the story of CLAES
MARTENSZEN van ROSENVELT [NOT "Rosevelt"], cousin FDR,
the family's genealogist" in the 1938 Delgado-interview
said HE DID NOT BELIEVE A WORD OF THIS ZEELAND BUSINESS
and he even repudiated it AS A GRAND PUBLICITY STUNT SOMEONE
THOUGHT UP TO ATTRACT TOURISTS OFF THE BEATEN TRACK. Cousin
FDR, the family genealogist, the same 1938 Delgado-interview
went on to say that THERE'S A TRADITION IN OUR FAMILY THAT
THE ROOSEVELTS CAME FROM SOMEWHERE NEAR HAARLEM, NORTH HOLLAND. In your posting, I guess this date of 1938 and
cousin FDR's statements just slipped your mind. This is my
compliant. WHY do you want to deprive both we ROSENVELTS
& the public of this small BUT CRUCIAL piece of genealogical
evidence and all the while ONLY PROMPT Oud-Vossemmer, Tholen, Zeeland??? I included both. WHY don't you???
Respectfully, Gregory Thompson, a ROOSEVELT [ROSENVELT/
ROSENFELT]-descendant.

addendum: in piecing this together, the HYDE PARK &
ULSTER CO.-ROOSEVELTS [ROSENVELT/ROSENFELT] adhere to
THE ORIGINAL being the family tradition our coming from
near HAARLEM, NORTH HOLLAND. whereas, the Oyster Bay
branch seems acquiesed towards Oud-Vossemeer, Tholen,
Zeeland. FDR's descendants inclined towards Oud-Vossemeer
are also descended from OYSTER BAY via Eleanor. The
nephew of FDR, Theodore Robinson, if memory serves, is also
a descendant of the OYSTER BAY BRANCH of the family.
And, it appears that the "friends" of both branches of the
family from the 1920's to the present also incline towards
Oud-Vossemeer. Yet, THE FACT remains, FDR's 1938-statement
pertaining to WHERE we came from in HOLLAND and from where
we DID NOT come from in HOLLAND. THE FACT also remains
that THE ORIGINAL-genealogical knowledge being our family
tradition relates that we came from NORTH HOLLAND near
HAARLEM. THE FACT IS cousin FDR's 1938-statement is
irrefutable and, the c. 300-yrs. old family tradition
of near HAARLEM, NORTH HOLLAND, is also irrufutable.
Respectfully, Gregory Thompson, a ROOSEVELT [ROSENVELT/
ROSENFELT]-descendant.
