Visited the Dutch Church in Kingston Last Week

Last week my mother and I visited the Dutch church in Kingston NY so we could look at the chest that supposedly belonged to Albert Roosa. In the guest book, several other visitors had signed in as Roosa descendants. We are descended from his daughter Neeltje who married Henry Pawling. My line, by then named Furman, moved from Ulster County NY to South Carolina in 1750 or so, then on to Florida, by then named Taylor, in the 1840s. I now live about 60 miles south of Kingston.

The church will celebrate its 350th anniversay in 2009. There will be festivities up and down the Hudson and Champlain valleys that year, because it will the the 400th anniversary of Hudson's and Champlain's first visits to the region. It would be fun to meet other Roosa ancestors at the church when (if) it has its celebration.
