Greetings - I am from Westminster, Mass. and recently returned from a visit to Gettyburg (fascinating!). I am not related to Simeon J. Roosa but I became interested in him after seeing his picture on the Gettysburg Battlefield Visitors Center wall along with many others.
With so many pictures displayed, I decided to focus on one and his story caught my eye and I decided to see if I could follow-up on him, which brings me here.
In the brief account of his Gettysburg service it was stated that he had both eyes shot out during the battle and was found in a ditch three days later. He was calling for his father.
I just wanted to focus on one individual instead of reading all the others which would have consumed all my time and left no singular impression of one distinct person.
It is enlightening even to this day that one person can leave an impression and his echos resound from the past, particularly such a sad ending for a man so young.
Regards, Ron Brough
