Here is some information I collected about 17 years ago. I started with information I got from my grandfather and then used the LDS geneological archives in Salt Lake City. If anyone has other information or background that supports or conflicts I would love to hear about it. Roy Raines (my grandfather) m. Katherine Morgan | Walker Lee Roop / Mamie | Charles E Roop/ Bettie | Lewis / Jane Worsham m. Nov 10, 1842 In the 1850 census Charles was not listed since he was born in 1852. In this census another son Floyd is listed. In the 1910 census Thomas was living with Charles and his age was giaven as 64. I think there could be some discrepancy here. In the 1900 census Charles' age is given at 48. In the 1910 it is 54. Our name was spelled differently in both censuses- as "Roupe (1910) and Rupe (1900). They were also in lthe Hiwassee Magisterial Dist. Lewis Rupe had at leaset six sisters and four brothers as John and Elizabeth had 11 children. Their daughters names were Polly, Octavo, Mahalia, Eliza, Elizabeth and Mariah. Sons names were Anderson, Lewis, Reuben and John Elswick. This information is from the book of wills of Pulaski. I found two references that did not make sense. Under survivors it also listed (this is word for word) Grandson William Ballard Roop (their spelling) Son of Russell and Polly Roop Granddaughter - Harriet and Thomas Children of John and Menerver. This Thomas is the only Roop I have found in that time frame so far, but he isnt listed as one of the brothers of Charles. Lewis' wife is reputed to have died on 11 June 1861 her name was Jane Washburn (that is as it was written) of Pittsylvania County. I have found marriage information for some of John's Children. Eliza Jane Roop m. William Elkins 22 Jan 1846 Pulaski VA Elizabeth Roop m. Francis Jurnell 5 Feb 1844 In the 1840 census of Pulaski there are three Roops, male only without any other description that I have found so far. Henry, John, and Anderson. It seems like I remember once that my grandfather said there was a Roop who was a Sherriff. I found that Reuben Roop was a Sherriff. My grandfather said he was an uncle or great uncle.
