Linda,
I have just sifted through many of your postings on Genforum and find that they are factual and no nonsense.Just the way I do things as well.I have to say that I have been concerned that I have been posting too much on the Forum but compared to you, I'm not even close. You truly share your info and that is what it is all about.
To the point I am researching the Rookins/Rookings family and Short families since there is a connection between William Rookins the elder and a Thomas Weekes both of whom owned land adjacent to each other on Upper Chipoakes Creek and the James River at the same time.It appears that Rookins rec. his land in 1636 and Weekes rec. his 100a in 1637.Weekes d. ca. 1676 at a time when William Jr. would have had ownership of the land and near to when he supposedly d. in prison.
The Weekes connection to Rookins apparently is just more than being neighbors in that, supposely a Mary Rookins m. a Wm. Short s/o Wm. Short and Elizabeth Symons. This Wm. Short the younger had a sister Sarah who m. George Middleton.Middleton may have m. a daughter of Thomas Weekes after Sarah d. 1676...because in 1688 Thomas Middleton sold 100a that had been patentedto his grandfather Thomas Weekes in 1637.In essence Weekes would have been his "step grandfather" since he would have been born prior to 1676. (According to Weekes' will there were no heirs or wife, but somehow his 100a descended to Thomas Middleton. Now that I think about it, maybe Thomas Weeks and a Stephen Weeks who both d. in Surry abt. the same time were involved in Bacon's Rebellion. There was a Robert Weekes from Charles City Co. who was in the Rebellion and was "kinda" granted a pardon.)
Bottom line is do you know if there was a Sarah Rookins who would have been a d/o William and Jane?In William Rookins the younger's will of 1676 he lists his cousin Mary Short who should have been his aunt if she was d/o Wm. and Jane?
It appears that it has been awhile since you researched this family so take your time in getting back to me if you have any insight.
Thanks for your time and consideration and keep up the good work.
Walter Weeks
