I have no idea when my Grandfather Calvin Rookard was born. This township that you mentioned, I've never heard of it. I do know about the city of Greer. My cousin, Leslie Rookard in Cincinnati might know something. She was trying to research our family tree some years ago. She mailed me some birth and death certificates. This is how I found out that heart disease ran on my father's side of the family. My grandfather died of the same heart ailment that my father died of. My father's siblings all born in Spartanburg, South Carolina are as follows:
Hester Rookard (Deceased)
Lester Rookard (Deceased)
Luke Rookard (Deceased)
Arthur Rookard (Deceased)
Elizabeth Rookard (Deceased)
Nancy Rookard (Deceased)
Felonia Rookard (Deceased)
There were fifteen children born to Calvin and Ollie Rookard. I only knew of nine. I have knowledge of the other six.
Now, I need to get back with you with this other information. I need to dig through my papers and see if I even kept any of the stuff my cousin sent me from Cincinnati.
I will say this. I am interested to know the derivation of my name. I understand that the slave masters that owned my family were of German-Jewish decent. Is this true. You can understand that being African-American with the name 'Rookard' gets me a great deal of attention. Most people think that I am Caucasian until they see me in person. I think it's rather funny.
I am interested to know more about you. I'll look to hear from you.
