That would be Brownsville, Edmonson County, Kentucky. The Roofs were members of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church that was located southwest of Brownsville. Martin Roof was a trustee of the church that was organized between the months of August and December 1869. Rev. Martin Van Buren Roof was an early member of the church; he was a son of Nicholas Roof.
Martin Van Buren Roof married Cynthia Ann Houchin, daughter of Revolutionary War soldier Frances Houchin (died about 1840. The Houhins were members of the Temple Hill Baptist Church (Edmonson County) along First or Second Creek, this church no longer exists, but its cemetery is still there.

This church founded in 1869 and was disassociated in about 1900.
