Elizabeth RONK, prob born in Montgomery County, Indiana (siblings were), md. Albert GRAY. I don't have a dob for her.

She was the dau/o John Thomas RONK, b. 29 Jul 1839, Putnam County, IN, d. 5 Oct 1888 Montgomery County, IN, and Nancy G. HAMM, b. 24 Feb 1842, d. 6 Apr 1894. They were md. 30 Aug 1860 and had five chn I know of.

John Thomas was the s/o Samuel RONK b. 17 Apr 1803, Botetourt County, VA, d. 7 Nov 1881, Montgomery County, IN, bur. Mt. Pleasant Cem., Clark Twp., Montgomery Co., IN, and his 1st wf Nancy Susan FEATHER, b. 16 Jan 1810, Salem, Roanoke County area of what was then Botetourt County, VA, d. 21 Mar 1867, Montgomery Co., IN, also bur. Mt. Pleasant Cem., Clark Twp., Montgomery Co., IN;

Samuel s/o John RONK, b. 22 Jan 1773, Lancaster County, PA, d. bef 1821, Botetourt Co., VA, and wf Catherine Elizabeth MARKEY (have also seen spelled MARCY, looking for better proof of either);

John s/o George RANCK, who changed spelling of surname to RONK, b. 1736 Lancaster Co., PA, d. bef Mar 1812 in Roanoke County area of what was then Boteoturt Co., VA, and wf Barbara ---, b. abt 1742, d. 1 May 1815, Roanoke Co. area of Botetourt Co., VA.
George and all but one of his ten children, although mainly grown, moved together from Lancaster County, PA to an area known as Back Creek, not far from Salem in Roanoke County today, in 1795. (One daughter, married and raising a family in PA, did not come at the time, but moved to Virginia some years later.) George's sister, Anna Eva RANCK, her husband Durst AMMEN, and their nine children, also made the move to this area of Virginia. Some stayed in the area, but in the 1820s and 1830s many moved on: from Virginia these families migrated, mainly to West Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and California. (Samuel was the only one of John RONK's children to leave the area; Samuel and Nancy left Botetourt Co. after the 1830 census, but before the birth of their son Joseph, b. 1833, Putnam Co., IN.)

George s/o John Philip RANCK, b. 3 Feb 1704, d. 1785, and wf Anna Barbara SCHUMACHER, b. 1706, d. ?. This family discussed at length in various postings here and elsewhere. John Philip emigrated from Germany in 1729, through Philadelphia to Earl Township/ New Holland area of Lancaster County, PA, following older brother John Michael.

Have more on the line but no information past the marriage of Albert GRAY and Elizabeth RONK. I would be very interested in adding descendancy information to what I know of the family. Please email with other questions, or if you can provide me with information about Elizabeth RONK's descendancy. Always looking to learn more about the "Virginia" branch of the RANCK/RONKs!

Until later,
J Erickson
