Evelyn, I just read your reply to Donia about Hugh Roan & think we might be searching for the same line. I'm looking for Tunstall Roan b c 1740/1744 d. bef 1 Jun 1801 Hancock co GA
m. Milley Bagby on 18 Apr 1766 in Rowan co, NC
issue: James Roan b 5 Sept 1766 Caswell co NC d 1810 Ga
m Mary Jarrett
Nancy Roan m Elijah George
These are the only children I know of but could be more.
For some reason, I think Tunstall had a brother named Hugh but I am not sure of that. While doing research at the Ala Archives a few years ago I ran across a Hugh Roan divorce in Ala (1830 -1835 period). I'm thinking the father of Tunstall Roan was a James Roan. Tunstall & Milley named their first child James. The George name seems to fit the naming pattern of the Bagby line. I realize that isn't very good documentation but this Roan line has been very difficult to research. I've been thinking my Tunstall Roan was born in NC or VA (Tunstall is a very big name in VA) but I'm beginning to think I should look at PA too.
I would like to know if you have seen the name Tunstall Roan while doing your Roan research? If you have, please let me know. I have been beating this "Roan bush" for some time & was beginning to think they burned the court houses before they left a place. The paper trail was so poor. Maybe I was just looking in the wrong places. I appreciate any help you can give on the Roan surname & esp. on Tunstall Roan. Ruth B
