Paul,
Thanks for the speedy reply.
I have only, like last Saturday, discovered my great grandmother's surname, it has been quite a hunt I've had to make assumptions and then go and prove them out as all the information that I and my cousins had from our parents, all of whom are dead, was incorrect!
According to the 1881 census in England both she and her husband, James Fahey, were born in Ireland and at the time of the census they were both 44 years old. Their eldest daughter, that I have traced, was born in Liverpool in 1858 thus I assume my great grandparents to have been born around 1836/ 1837 and met and married in Ireland before moving to Liverpool, no doubt during the famine.
The only reason I think that James Fahey might have come from Dublin is that one of my cousins was checking out burial records in Liverpool and the deed holder of one of our family graves is one James Fahey from Dublin, I have to say though that since he gave me that information I have visited Liverpooland the two of us went through the library records and I could not find any indication that the James Fahey grave deed holder came from Dublin, my cousin says he is going to return to the library and see if he can find where he got his first lot of information from!
In my digging I have come across Fahey's in the Cork area thus I think my great grandparents are from that area but as you probably know thinking is one thing proving is another.
Nice to hear from you and my be we can establish a link between your roots and mine.
Best Wishes
David.
