I read your message about Steierdorf and your ggranfather/mother. Maybe I can help you a little bit. (Im sorry but my english is not very good!)

My name is Uschi Spevak, I am 26 years old and I am born in Steierdorf/Anina. I lived there 16 years, then I leeved 1990 to Germany.

Steierdorf is a little quarter from Anina. It was founded in 1877. There was found hardcoal and so a lot of people from other parts of Europe settled there. They were coming from Austria, Germany and Czechoslovakia.

Steierdorf is a part of the region Banat and til 1918 it was a part from the austrian-hungaryan empire. After First World War it became a member of Romania. After Second World War Romania became a socialist republik.

Steierdorf is in the south-west of Romania and surrounded of the Anina Mountains, a part from the Carpathians. Its a very naturally an beautifull place.

Til 1990 many german people lived there, then after the revolution a lot of them leaved (like me)to Germany or other countries.

If you want to know more, send me an e-mail with your questions.

Greetings from Germany!

Uschi Spevak
