My Great Grandparents were Frank and Marie (nee: Yinger or Yunger) Schiff (both born in 1878 - in a little town in Austria Hungary (town annexed to Romania end of WWI) called Mertsidorf (now called Mertsishora - spelling ?). The town was located close to Bucharest. They both died in Chicago at the age of 77 (1955). They had three girls two born in Austria Hungary - one born here. Frank and Marie, like many other folks, came here to work and planned to take the money back home. But, when WWI broke out they couldn't leave the US. So, they stayed and built a farm in Arlington Heights (Chicago suburb), Illinois. First daughter, Catherine (married Albert Heddinger)no surviving children or grandchildren. Second daughter, Elizabeth born 1899 (married Josesph Joanowitz) had two daughters - Irene (married Louis Aiello [two daughters Pamela and Sandra) and Betty (married John Bradley Rome [three boys - John Bradley Jr, Michael Joseph, and Lawrence[) and the Schiff's third daughter, Tillie (married Walter Worth [two daughters - Diana (married John Saarima)and Chris married Mark Maxwell]). NOTE: Joseph Joanowitz's parents owned the town Inn, which was confiscated at the time the town was annexed Elizabeth and Joseph left for the US that very week-end - as all of their monies were collected by the new government - to join Elizabeth's parents in Chicago. Frank and Marie never returned to their homeland.
